Memoriiiiies

Ireland - March 2009 ... Limerick to Killarney to Waterford to Dublin ... each beautiful in its own right ...
my images ... some my words ...
Was it?

Was it you my love, I passed on the street?
Was that our first and last time - our missed chance to meet?
If our time quickly came and even quicker went
I hope you consider it, as I, time well spent.

- me

Every man his castle

Every man his castle. A fortress - no man dare trespass!
Too bad that you're the king but you still have to cut the grass.

-me
The limbs that move, the eyes that see,
these are not entirely me;
Dead men and women helped to shape,
the mold that I do not escape;
The words I speak, the written line, these
are not uniquely mine.
For in my heart and in my will, old
ancestors are warring still,
Celt, Roman, Saxon and all the dead, from
whose rich blood my veins are fed,
In aspect, gesture, voices, tone, flesh of
my flesh, bone of my bone;
In fields they tilled, I plow the sod, I walk
the mountain paths they trod;
Around my daily steps arise - the good,
the bad - those I comprise.

by Richard Rolle c 1300 - 1349

He Wished for the Cloths of Heaven
"Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet,
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams..."                        -William Butler Yeats

For any standing in doubt of a creator, I recommend a moment uninterrupted at the Cliffs of Moher. Creation speaks of the glory of God and a photograph only whispers of its majesty and that which it reflects.

Suleima To Her Lover- from the Turkish
Thou reck'nest seven Heavens; I but one:
And thou art it, Beloved! Voice and hand,
And eye and mouth, are but the angel band
Who minister around that highest throne -
Thy godlike heart. And there I reign supreme,
And choose, at will, the angel who I deem
Will sing the sweetest, words I love to hear -
That short, sweet song, whose echo clear
Will last throughout eternity:
"I love thee
How I love thee!"

He's a cold hearted snake

An earlier setting sun is just about the only sign of fall I have right now but that doesn't stop me from day dreaming about the fashions of colder weather. I almost wore boots to the movies last night! SO not time for that!! ... for now Katherine Heigel's Michael Kors dress from the October 2010 cover of InStyle has me thinking about snake skins - something you can wear year 'round!! ... head to toe!! but PLEASE not ALL at the same time!!

When life gives you ...

When life gives you lemons, uuuummmm garnish your drink of course! But when life doesn't give you the common sense to take you bananas in the office when you buy groceries at LUNCH, make banana nut bread!! ... ooor this EXTREME Banana Nut Bread I found online. I'm not quite sure what made it extreme - looks just like my mom's recipe. then again Ma is pretty extreme ...

Extreme Banana Nut Bread 'EBNB' from Allrecipes.com

Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 cup butter or margarine
2 cups white sugar
2 cups mashed overripe bananas (ok, the bananas weren't as gross as they look but they sun did a number on the peel!)
4 eggs, beaten
1 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9x5 inch loaf pans.

Sift the flour, salt and baking soda into a large bowl. In a separate bowl, mix together the butter or margarine and sugar until smooth. Stir in the bananas, eggs, and walnuts until well blended. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, and stir just until blended. Divide the batter evenly between the two loaf pans.

Bake for 60 to 70 minutes in the preheated oven, until a knife inserted into the crown of the loaf comes out clean. Let the loaves cool in the pans for at least 5 minutes, then turn out onto a cooling rack, and cool completely. Wrap in aluminum foil to keep in the moisture. Ideally, refrigerate the loaves for 2 hours or more before serving.

Tips from the site

- Do not taste this in advance of serving.

- Do not cut loaves prior to serving.

- Hide it from yourself, your spouse, kids, neighbors and contractors who may be downwind until ready to serve.

- Cut at the last possible moment

... I think mine look quite tasty ... can't wait to try a slice!!

A few words

joy

faded memories of a past existence linger amid my everyday thoughts.
water colors muted by the hands of time, softened as if rubbed by the sands of an old hour glass.
faded reds and cool blues that still coax a smile. eyes gazing up and off to the left where sighs of joy push the swings with gentle breezes; where balloons, still inflated with laughter, rise higher still into clouds of calm and contentment.
they call to me to come out and play in the recesses of my mind but i’m content to watch from here with a coy smile upon my face. to let memories meander unabated on an unending summer’s day

Day one! ... I mean, it's whatever

So this is it. My noncommittal love letter to life. Cashmere & Carbs are of course just two of the things that make life so very grand but hey, they're two of THE BEST! This space is sure to be as random as I (journals, photos, poems, book reviews, magic tricks -weeell maybe no book reviews) but hopefully it'll all come together and make you smile. Check it out when the mood strikes you here and there...

On the agenda today: Urban Nirvana - no not the ideal state of joy and harmony known only to a New Yorker ... THIS Urban Nirvana. Oh my  ... if you've never had an hour massage given by a trained professional, you simply must start treating yourself better. The minute you walk through the door; you know you're in for a treat. The dim lighting is soothing, the smells invigorating yet calming all in the same breath. The integrated massage, the only way to go as far as I'm concerned, was simply divine. Kayla worked out every single sign of stress my body had held onto. The hour was much too short of course.  As a consolation prize, I treated myself a cute new Lavishy wallet before moving on - too cute:

All this hard work made me hungry so I picked up some Fresh Market lemon pepper rotisserie salmon, Aegean couscous and a bottle of Malbec for dinner and some rotisserie chicken salad and french bread for lunch - yumm:

so that is it for day one ... as you can tell it's just a pretty lazy, pampering day ... TRUST me, they're not all that way ...  but sometimes a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!
